Leaning out the window

permanent record: Keanuvision.com

I cried today. Well sort of. It was just a micromininano second of ‘crying’. There were tears in my eyes a little time before that because of this movie on HBO. It was just a very short thing….the ‘crying’. I don’t even remember if there was a sob. Just a micromininanopico second. I just ‘swelled up’. There was this incredible burst of emotions. The movie was over. The credits were over. I just sat there staring… at nothing. Then it happened. It just grabbed me. Like they say a big explosion lifts up a body into the air and throws it way high before ‘gravity takes over’, or rather the force loses its force.

A bad day

Before you (I mean there MUST be at least one person reading this no? Please please please let there be. Well I’m mail the link to a few. So I rest assured that there indeed is a YOU reading this) go “Hey wasn’t there another one with the same title down there somewhere,” let me say that indeed there was. (Of course I am again assuming that YOU have read that one too. Man do I have a super high opinion of myself ? Well who hasn’t? Even the people with the lowest self esteem have that like “Man I am the worst. There is no one as bad and suck at more things than me. But I have so much potential. Why did it all go wrong and I ended up here.” See first the person thinks he/she is the best at being the worst and then there is the other thing.) Click to Overdose on senseless RANTING »

When Life Bowls another Chinaman*

*for those not familiar with cricket, a chinaman is a ball bowled by a left-handed bowler to a right-handed batsman that spins from off to leg. Pretty confusing huh? First no tickets then no seats then a brief period of gentle breeze blew to give a false sense that the sailing was going be smooth now. And then it again began. Big giant waves hit. I lost my passport, then my good right ankle gives away, then misunderstanding drops me at the airport without an exit visa, a long walk. Then the visa guy says “Five days!” Next hotels won’t take me then the wheel of the suitcase goes out. And would you believe it? I get lonely and turn on the TV which has only Chinese for a sense of company. Then to top it all my backup hard drive crashes with 3.92 GBs of photo right after I format my camera card. Finally I get a computer and it’s all in Chinese.

Two guys from the shop try until near midnight but can’t and here I am eating Oriel cookies and water for breakfast, tapping away in the Chinese 60-day trial version of Microsoft Office Word 2007, changing the font to English every now and then from Chinese, on Sunday, November 11, 2007, and the final day of Tihar in Nepal (I think) at the room number 3 of the 13th floor of one of China Daily’s to 14-story ‘dormitories’ in what I hope will be the final leg of this chapter of my misadventures. Life as an OzFan: Not very easy
Posted on April 28th, 2007 at 9:18 am by tt

Was chatting todaywith Prem, the sad dude who roots for India. And my case was proven, again. He said “LOOK. THE AUSTRALIANS ARE AN OLD LOT. SO HOPEFULLY THE NEWER ONES WON’T BE AS GOOD AS GILCHRIST, MEGRAJ, WARNE AND PONTING.” I mean man that is so sad. Instead of hoping that other teams start making better players you, and the rest of the world, are hoping the Oz will wane down. Instead of “strive to be great” you’re all promoting bring the great down and you’ll be great thing. Sad. Sad. Like I said one of my previous blogs, it’s bloody friggin’ hard being an Aussie fan.

Everyone is always ganging up together around you, taunting you, criticizing the team for being great, just waiting for that one loss to gloat over and make you feel bad and trying to push you to lose your cool and go mad. But I’m cool with that. That’s what you get from watching and rooting for the Oz. really. And then there is that ‘not good for cricket’ crap they keep throwing at you all the time. Is it the Aussie’s fault that they are good and the rest of the world aren’t. Well what if they lose tonight? What’s gonna happen? Is that one loss gonna change the whole story? With that one loss are the Aussies not gonna be the whipperboys and balance is going to descend on the whole cricket world? Guess not. One loss is not going to change a lot. But the fact that it is a World Cup final is going to set back the rest of them.

Long ago around a year or so after England won the Ashes, the poms were not doing too well and someone said on BBC’s cricket blog: The Ashes win was the worst thing that could happen to English cricket. It made them think that everything was alright with them. While it won’t be exactly similar if Australia lose today, it could be something similar. Maybe I am just biased because I am an Oz Fan. But the good thing from that (the Oz lose) is that you learn to brace for these kinda things. Every loss has made them come out stronger in the next outing. And you know they’ll bounce back and thrash the offenders. So in the end one loss is just that – one small tiny winy loss. I say the Oz are good for the game. They provide you the benchmark to look up to and strive to become – or beat. Once that’s gone everything is just going to be mediocre. But who’s to understand that. But trust me. Life supporting the Oz is really not easy.

Favourite quotes from BBC TMS blog

Here are some quotes I picked up from BBC’s blog on the day of the Oz-Protozoas semi match

“1415 BST: Dressing-room doors firmly shut at the mo, and we can only imagine what’s going on in there - Jacques Kallis practising his forward defensive in the mirror while Andre Nel is being restrained with ropes, while in the Aussie locker-room Matthew Hayden gulps down his third protein shake of the day while bench-pressing a fridge with his spare hand.

Cat Fight at PK
Posted on April 27th, 2007 at 2:38 pm by tt

Two student wings of the all girls' Padma Kanya Campus (PKC), Bagbazar, Kathmandu fighting it out inside the campus grounds on April 27, 2007. The two groups are cadres of Nepal Students' Union (NSU), the student wing of Nepali Congress Party, and All Nepal Free Students' Union - Revolutionary - ANFSU-R, the student wing of Nepal Communist Party - Maoist (CPN-M). The fight erupted over disagreement over the awarding of PKC's scholarships.

Bhutlyaing, scratching, screeching, slapping, pyatpyatpyat two handed semi-open palm punching… oh the spitting the cursing, their hairs’ here there everywhere… the cursing, the tero #%^*%!*, boksi, dankini, r****, and whole range of neverbefore heard language, and the pushing and shoving, faces all read and blue and the tears…. red watery if-looks-could-kill eyes - ah!I don’t know what it is about girls fighting - the old fashioned way like above - but we men just love it. Maybe the explanation DOES lie the Sigmund Freud styaile… you know? To do with S**. Cuz they do look damn hot when they fight. But we should try to find out the reason: why the heck do we men love cat fights? Please enlighten me guys.

It’s hard to be an Aussie fan
Posted on April 25th, 2007 at 6:05 am by tt

You know something that I have realized lately? It’s so damn hard being an Australian cricket fan. damn hard! Why? Cuz unlike the Indians, Pakis, Windies, Poms and the other few, Aussies bloody lose so little that you actually don’t know how to react.

Tailor made pitch?
Posted on April 25th, 2007 at 4:36 am by tt

This has been something that me has been thinking for some time now and the big big proof came forward the other day. Even that headline came the other day. I think it was Holding who said it… I don’t remember but on the interviewed was Murali, I think…or was it Jaiwardane…? Considering the number of wickets he took against the Kiwis and the problems he and the other spinners became for the poor kiwis… holding said how he liked the pitch which looked like it was tailor made for Murali. It suited his bowling so bloody nicely….Well….may be it WAS tailor made for Sri Lanka….. Like what we could see today against the Great Wizards of OZ….. the real world champs no matter who wins the cup…..or goes to the finals… There is a small piece of doubt… of conspiracy by the ICC or the pitch makers or whoevers ….the bloody pitches have change… tampered with……

THEY ASKED FOR HIS DEATH
every time the Pakis lost,
And finally they got it!

Now they say they are saddened
They say that he was the only person
serious about Paki cricket
They say they miss him now
They say he was one of the best
They say they are sorry
They say they regret it
They say he was not to blame for the loss
So why did they keep burning his effigy?
Why did they keep organizing his mock burials?
I say Shame on them
Now they can really bury him
RIP Bob Woolmer
Pakis will finally stop troubling you

The leprechauns strike! The bigger they are the harder they fall
Posted on March 18th, 2007 at 10:19 am by tt

What’s happening? This thing is my third straight blog about very unexpected things happening. Things you really thought you’d not see in your lifetime or even conceived the possibility of. This time it is the demise of the giants at the hands of the minnows, or the leprechauns as I have put it here. Well Bangladesh beating India in both teams first world cup match in this edition may have been a small possibility. I mean I did once ask Mote (prem dhakal… Indian ‘fan’) what would happen if the ‘Tiger’ beat India.. i don’t remember what he said but it was probably a grunt, a growl and then probably some ill thoughts targeted at Australia. But Ireland beating the Pakis…nah that thought would crumble the moment it crossed my mind… just like India and Pakistan crumbled. Quite a Saint Patrick’s day they had.

Well we have, I HAVE, lost one of our favourite running jokes at the office. Ameet dai’s marriage. I’ll update on those jokes after some time, after a long long long time… when it’s safe….

Cold day in hell or when hell freezes over stands means never. But if there is a Bramhanda cycle when things all go recycle then after the armagedon n maha pralaya, hell will freeze over, eventualy. But when it snows in kathmandu has an even deeper significance. Cuz it’s been thought to be more of a non possible thing. They say it did not snow here even during the ice age. But there was a rumor that it did some time way way long back. No one actually believed it. Well that is until TODAY.

(THAT was Nokia’s ascending tone which stands for C-O-N-N-E-C-T-I-N-G/P-E-O-P-L-E) I reach my hand to pick up the phone to hoping wow SMS on Valentine’s Day morning. But in the last three days the phone just falls to the ground but unlike yesterday it doesn’t disintegrate and is intact. And it IS a Valentine’s Day message. BUT, it’s from Ramesh Singak. Called him up to complain about being woken up on Valentine’s Day by a guy and said “Ah I was hoping one from a girl you blah blah,” or something to that effect. Then one sms reply and then it’s tneetneetneetitititititititnitnitnitnitni! Ahhhh… It’s the phone this time. I don’t know the number. Some CDMA line I think. Pick it up and oh no not the voice I wanted to listen to. Some person I’d rather avoid. So I cut it. Then it rings again. I cut it. And again. Hellloooo! Can’t they take a hint? I think it rang one more time. Then I just picked it up and held it and they hung up after a few hellos and then it rings again. One more of the silent treatment and it’s over. Ah now I can sleep. Then it’s Mahendra dai. Talk to him about his story. Ah Perfect Valentine’s Day morning. Talks with two guys. Oh Great Powerful Forces of the Universe. Is this a hint? After a few minutes Avash sends a greeting. Oh Lord! Oh everything else!

What a bloody day
Posted on December 2nd, 2006 at 3:36 am by tt

The flames are all gone, but the pain lingers on.

-Goodbye Blue Sky
Waters, Pink Floyd

What a day! First in the morning I did wake up at six to go for the ad classes but I had not had enough sleep and I did not feel all right to go ride my bike to Putali Sadak in what would have been the my first class in four days… I mean I had paid Rs 5,000 of the little that goes into my bank account as salary for this 15 day advertising course and I three days had already gone since the classes started and i hadn’t managed to attend any. This time I was really sure I would. Well I was pretty sure I would in all those days. But having just three/four hours of sleep under my eye, my limbs did not feel right. So predictably, I did not go, again. You know that feeling when you dark circle feels dusty and extremely dark, you really feel your joints… every joint in your joint, your mind is very numby and every muscle feels stiff. A very not so advisable form to go out in. Worst case scenario would be nodding during the class and worster would be nodding off while driving.

It was that and the very simple reason that I am a bloody sloth, a bloody lazy lazy lazy sloth. So I did not go. I got a phone call later on asking whether I intended to come at all. The guy’s voice was really angry and surprised. He couldn’t comprehend that there would be any one like me. I gave the “Had to work in the office till 2 last night so couldn’t make it. Will it be on on Saturday? No? Then Sunday will I be there,” routine. Same same. Been using that so many places. Works none of the time. One of my worst excuses but got no other for a particular situation like this.
After that it was the Ashes match that was not going my way. The Aussies had got three by that time. The third pommie had gone up at 158. But that was all. Plus Warne was getting a pasting. Bad bad bad. Very bad indeed. Very extremely bad. Not good for me at all.

Next up was mom’s mobile. Was waiting for a pommie wicket to go and what went was mom’s MotoRazor V3. It literally went down. It popped up up from her bag and went down down down and hit the wet bathroom tile. Not really a good place was this chinese-inta-on-the-outsideko ghar at Shanti Basti, Madhyapur Thimi-16, Bhaktapur District, Kathmandu Valley, Bagmati Zone, Central Development Region, Nepal, South…………………………..

What happened next was even worse. I had a fight with Rubi. It was a day after her date birthday. I wanted to make the day before to be really special and then this one too as it was still December 30 in America. But because it was me on whom that responsibility lay, neither was special. It WAS special but in the most negative way that it could be. Damn. Why am I such a sucker, such a loser? I do this to everything.

How to enjoy life… advice 4 women.. and then some 4men..secrets both knew but always chose to ignore
Posted on November 30th, 2006 at 2:36 am by tt

They say love is blind…and marriage is an institution. Well, I’m not ready for an institution for the blind just yet.

- Mae West

Dirty Dirty mindTo those women out there who are about to walk down the aisle, which in the case of the male kind of the being would be translated to walk the plank, or in case of us hindus… run around the fire which is gonna burn you here’s what great research has proved again and again and again and again through centuries and even milleniums before that….. in later days marriage cousellors, divorce courts and bars and motels… everywhere there are evidence… there is just one simple sentence that sums up a good married life for you…. it is for this that all men jump in the fire and let you obliterate us… we all let you make our goood stuff go pooooffffffff in a cloud of smoke for that bit of ooooooooffffff, hhhuuummfff anf the final wooooofff woooofff and then phooooooooooo…..

Just one sentence…. wat is it?

I feel not good!!!!
Posted on November 17th, 2006 at 12:41 am by tt

22:45, Nov 16

I don’t feel too good. Really not so good. It’s not got to do with the stuffy nose I got…whatever it is – cold, pinas, flu, AIDS… it’s got the symptoms of all of them. I don’t know what it is. I just don’t feel very good. Not good at all.

How do I put it? I don’t exactly feel bad. Just whatever I feel is not what I want to feel like. That whole not-comfy I don’t wanna be here feeling.

I feel lost. Like a loser. Useless. Hopeless. Completely without hope. Nah that doesn’t sound funny. I checked the WordWeb for synonyms for hopeless to do the whole repeat the meaning of a word routine. You say the synonyms of a word again and again and it usually sounds funny. In all times except this. Click to Overdose on senseless RANTING »

Posted on September 28th, 2006 at 3:57 am by tt

Let’s observe a moment’s silence in memory of my latest piece of misfortune. The demise of my Cell/Mobile phone. I ‘lost’ it. I didn’t exactly lose it like it was in my pocket where is it. I knew where it was but not where it is now. I distinctly remember reminding myself to pick it up off the sports desk table. I distinctly remember making a note of its location under two press releases which I had shuffled to see if the one from Prime College was there. But as it is with me I forgot to do what I told myself to do. As is always the case with me I managed to let something that I HAD to do slip. And the result no more cell phone. Strike! Strike Strike!
Posted on September 1st, 2006 at 11:19 am by tt

“Yes Sir! Mam! Or what ever it is you’d like to be called. Striking is the thing to do right now.”

Was going through my records here at the office deleting the ‘brilliant’ ideas that I had written down so that they not be found and used by some undesirables (ppl I desire not to open find it) when I came across this thing I had written around three years ago. Three years and a few months I think. Let me check. It says: Monday, June 30, 2003, 10:59:54 AM. I have come across it a lot in this period and maybe I did go through it but now I think I will put it here. I had written it for Post Platform but Bina didi had told me to rewrite it as it was a little too much colloquial. Well I had thought I had written a very funny and brilliant piece then. Looking at it now the basic theme IS kinda ‘brilliant’ and I sorta DID feel like laughing when I read it. In fact I think I did laugh a little. Not that it is that great a piece but oh how young I was then! And the language so young so immature.. hahaha…

Well most of it still IS kinda relevant. Imagine after three years. Expect the Korean Workers’ strike and maybe a few more…. Read on…. And tell me .. Has my writing and thinking and everything else changed? I’ll be waiting. Click to Overdose on senseless RANTING »

Leaving on a Jet Plane, Please let me come back again
Posted on July 24th, 2006 at 2:49 pm by tt

Handed the fighting fish to C for ‘safekeeping’. Am supposed to go to Thailand on Tuesday and as I said in one of my previous posts, I don’t like riding on things driven by anyone else. Plane rides rank second after long route busses and before bikes. So predictably and having those where will that plane come down tomorrow thing. I mean just think: once the plane goes up there is no room for anything. No switching on your sidelights and stopping on the side of the sky to change your tires or check the engine or other stuff. Anything goes wrong and whoosh straight down.

The fish is kind of sensitive, plus it just got over a whitespot break out and having lost quite a few fishes in the past month I don’t quite fancy losing this one. Plus I like this one nicely. And if I don’t get back it will be taken care off.

Yeap! It’s all over for me. England went and Brazil followed moments after. Guess I will have to go with Bikash Karki to ATTSH. I promise I will tell you the history of that slogan in my next post. For now some France bashing. Click to Overdose on senseless RANTING »
