Life as an OzFan: Not very easy
Posted on April 28th, 2007 at 9:18 am by tt

Was chatting todaywith Prem, the sad dude who roots for India. And my case was proven, again. He said “LOOK. THE AUSTRALIANS ARE AN OLD LOT. SO HOPEFULLY THE NEWER ONES WON’T BE AS GOOD AS GILCHRIST, MEGRAJ, WARNE AND PONTING.” I mean man that is so sad. Instead of hoping that other teams start making better players you, and the rest of the world, are hoping the Oz will wane down. Instead of “strive to be great” you’re all promoting bring the great down and you’ll be great thing. Sad. Sad. Like I said one of my previous blogs, it’s bloody friggin’ hard being an Aussie fan.

Everyone is always ganging up together around you, taunting you, criticizing the team for being great, just waiting for that one loss to gloat over and make you feel bad and trying to push you to lose your cool and go mad. But I’m cool with that. That’s what you get from watching and rooting for the Oz. really. And then there is that ‘not good for cricket’ crap they keep throwing at you all the time. Is it the Aussie’s fault that they are good and the rest of the world aren’t. Well what if they lose tonight? What’s gonna happen? Is that one loss gonna change the whole story? With that one loss are the Aussies not gonna be the whipperboys and balance is going to descend on the whole cricket world? Guess not. One loss is not going to change a lot. But the fact that it is a World Cup final is going to set back the rest of them.

Long ago around a year or so after England won the Ashes, the poms were not doing too well and someone said on BBC’s cricket blog: The Ashes win was the worst thing that could happen to English cricket. It made them think that everything was alright with them. While it won’t be exactly similar if Australia lose today, it could be something similar. Maybe I am just biased because I am an Oz Fan. But the good thing from that (the Oz lose) is that you learn to brace for these kinda things. Every loss has made them come out stronger in the next outing. And you know they’ll bounce back and thrash the offenders. So in the end one loss is just that – one small tiny winy loss. I say the Oz are good for the game. They provide you the benchmark to look up to and strive to become – or beat. Once that’s gone everything is just going to be mediocre. But who’s to understand that. But trust me. Life supporting the Oz is really not easy.

Here are some quotes I picked up from BBC’s blog on the day of the Oz-Protozoas semi match

“1415 BST: Dressing-room doors firmly shut at the mo, and we can only imagine what’s going on in there - Jacques Kallis practising his forward defensive in the mirror while Andre Nel is being restrained with ropes, while in the Aussie locker-room Matthew Hayden gulps down his third protein shake of the day while bench-pressing a fridge with his spare hand.

- Tom Fordyce, the live text commentator for BBC

Cat Fight at PK
Posted on April 27th, 2007 at 2:38 pm by tt

Two student wings of the all girls' Padma Kanya Campus (PKC), Bagbazar, Kathmandu fighting it out inside the campus grounds on April 27, 2007. The two groups are cadres of Nepal Students' Union (NSU), the student wing of Nepali Congress Party, and All Nepal Free Students' Union - Revolutionary - ANFSU-R, the student wing of Nepal Communist Party - Maoist (CPN-M). The fight erupted over disagreement over the awarding of PKC's scholarships.

Bhutlyaing, scratching, screeching, slapping, pyatpyatpyat two handed semi-open palm punching… oh the spitting the cursing, their hairs’ here there everywhere… the cursing, the tero #%^*%!*, boksi, dankini, r****, and whole range of neverbefore heard language, and the pushing and shoving, faces all read and blue and the tears…. red watery if-looks-could-kill eyes - ah!I don’t know what it is about girls fighting - the old fashioned way like above - but we men just love it. Maybe the explanation DOES lie the Sigmund Freud styaile… you know? To do with S**. Cuz they do look damn hot when they fight. But we should try to find out the reason: why the heck do we men love cat fights? Please enlighten me guys.

It’s hard to be an Aussie fan
Posted on April 25th, 2007 at 6:05 am by tt

You know something that I have realized lately? It’s so damn hard being an Australian cricket fan. damn hard! Why? Cuz unlike the Indians, Pakis, Windies, Poms and the other few, Aussies bloody lose so little that you actually don’t know how to react.

Tailor made pitch?

This has been something that me has been thinking for some time now and the big big proof came forward the other day. Even that headline came the other day. I think it was Holding who said it… I don’t remember but on the interviewed was Murali, I think…or was it Jaiwardane…? Considering the number of wickets he took against the Kiwis and the problems he and the other spinners became for the poor kiwis… holding said how he liked the pitch which looked like it was tailor made for Murali. It suited his bowling so bloody nicely….Well….may be it WAS tailor made for Sri Lanka….. Like what we could see today against the Great Wizards of OZ….. the real world champs no matter who wins the cup…..or goes to the finals… There is a small piece of doubt… of conspiracy by the ICC or the pitch makers or whoevers ….the bloody pitches have change… tampered with……
